A Few Good Men

Yesterday I braved the rain and went to Silang market to get "a few" grocery items coz as usual, we ran out of food supplies. These days my little girl is like the fish in the game Feeding Frenzy by BigFish.com... wait... is it BigFish? Well anyway, so like I said she's like a hungry little fish gobbling up anything edible and then getting plump after a voracious meal.
While I was in Needs Grocery I suddenly thought about changing our eating style, you know for our health. Believe it or not I gained 7 kg in just 2 months. I guess for those of you who know me you can probably say that it's normal for me. All my uniforms can't fit anymore and there's no more extra cloth at the sides for adjustment. Even my mother who is gifted dressmaker, who has unbelievable skills in adjusting clothes' for the horizontally challenged gave up on me. This is a seriously serious problem and right them and there I made a quick decision. We will be vegetarians.
To become a vegetarian however is a big challenge. For me it's the same as bungee jumping. Imagine the horror of eating fake beef, fake chicken and fake meatloaf. Where else would we get the necessary minerals and vitamins essential for human survival?! So I told myself to go through each aisle and chose each item carefully. After an hour or more of zigzagging the mini supermarket I've accumulated two grocery carts! By golly how am I suppossed to carry them home? I was always used to the idea of just throwing anything in the shopping cart regardless of the weight coz my husband had been always there everytime I do the groceries. Huhuhu! But I was already standing in from of the cashier and it's too late to turn back. I was at the point of no return.
The moment I got out from the grocers to add insult to injury the heavens opened up and poured who knows how many cubic tons of rainwater was that! So there I stood at the entrance staring at the rain. Then a man who drives a tricycle asked me if I want to get a ride. I told him I'll just wait for the rain to stop coz I have a heavy box and I might slip while going down the steps. He stepped out from his tricycle and told me to get in while he took the heavy box of grocery. He brought me right at the entrance of the jeepney and the dispatcher, never caring about the rain, rushed to help me get the load out. Oh and by the way I was carrying two big plastic bags of bread and oats, another smaller one with vitamins for Coycoy and a really small one stuffed with eggplants and string beans, beat that! By the way I forgot to mention that I was wearing pencil skirt and high heels.
I really wanna finish this but I can't find the letter keys anymore so be sure to drop by my page tomorrow for the continuation. Sorry! (^_^)

English and friendship

After shedding buckets and buckets of tears on the graduation of my very first term (December-January 2004) in SDALC, I vowed never to attach myself to students of the upcoming terms again.

It had been easy! Just spend 6 hours with them in the classroom, avoid sitting with them in the cafeteria during lunch, just say a curt hi or hello when you meet each other in the hallway and never never hug them!

Life as a teacher was happy and free... when you're students are kept away from a distance. Keep the relationship as professional as possible, be free from tear jerky moments on graduation and enjoy the infamous mango ice cream cake of Mommy Jung in the graduation party afterwards. Being an ESL teacher for Korean students in SDALC is such a breeze.

Well that was before I met Cham.

She just turned my teaching world upside down!

During our first class I thought "This girl rocks! Her fashion statement is Gothic and so is her personality." She always wear black... almost everyday. If it's not black it's gray. Cham has this character stare that makes people retaliate. It's as if she's drawing a virtual wall between herself and the people she comes in contact with.

I didn't like her. That's good! It means my defense against students is still perfectly intact.

As days later turned to weeks I began to develop a curiosity for Cham. I realized that she reminds me of the younger me. Tough shelled but soft hearted... cynical yet trusting... To my horror I was starting to see her as a baby sister!

Finally at the ending days of her first term I let my guard down... totally. I felt that somehow she needed me and I needed her. Probably I needed her more....
